The facade resembles nothing so much as graph paper. Inside the copier of the first floor does not work. It has no "out of order" sign and eats quarters. "No," the woman I asked said, "we do not return quarters."
Condensation has renderd most of the interior ceiling tiles brown and/or decayed. The 9th floor court rooms seem to lack their own thermostats. The heating is centralized and in the dead of winter the only way to provide relief from the brutal heat blasting from the radiators is to open the windows. The air conditioners in the windows I observed were another sign that modern HVAC facilities are no where to be found. I imagine it becomes a sauna in the summer.
I came here for jury duty and was looknig forward to doing my civic duty. Upon arriving, we were forced through airport style security at which items were taken from fellow jurors, this with no prior warning in the letter we received. Then I and most people called wasted an entire day sitting in the waiting room not getting called to any courtroom and being told we could go home and not come back for three years as if we should be happy to have wasted a day to no purpose. This system needs to be better organized and needs to treat people who show up to do their civic duty with more dignity and respect.
I don't know why I have to go to jury duty. Someone please explain to me how is it Democratic about forcing someone to do jury duty out of their will? I pray to god I never have to go to court for a judgements. In this country if you have money and power your innocent. I want no part of this stupity.
A tip to those entering for the first time. Use the side entrance and not the front. The front is always clogged with people trying to get past the security checkpoint. The side is hardly used as at all. Despite the forbidding "employees only" sign, anyone can use it.
Careful if you ever have to file or fix anything in the landlord/tenant office in room 104. Never got her name, but considering her condescending nature, I wouldn't even want to know. My mother had to fix a form and I volunteered to do it for her. The black lady with shoulder length hair was giving some snide remarks about people that can't do math properly (sorry you rude woman, my mother was never told not to include the filing fee) with her coworker thinking I couldn't hear her. She also wanted to joyfully make fun of the way my mother apparently spelled Jersey City wrong. Again, English isn't her first language but that was no excuse to act like an uncultured hag. Save yourself time and ask for anyone but her. She is an awful representation of a city that boasts about diversity.
The court house needs major improvements made to it. It has a very ugly appearance inside as well as outside. The Hudson County Sheriff's Department are not friendly when you ask questions. The men as well as the woman sheriff's officers have a tough guy attitude than a friendly attitude.
